How a little analytics knowledge can go a long way to improving your business

Analytics…. Much less confusing than this graphic!

So what is analytics? It sounds like something you need an engineering degree to understand but it is not actually difficult. The Apps (Google Analytics, Square Space, Wix) do it all for you. The application basically analyzes all of the activity that takes place on your website to give you information on your visitors/customers-

  • Who - Your visitor demographic. Who are the people currently visiting your site? How old are they? What gender are they? Where are your visitors located?

  • Time - How long your visitors are spending on your site? Are they being engaged enough to continue to read or are they only clicking on for a few seconds and not finding what they hoped to see?

  • Trends - What are the site traffic trends. Is your site visited mostly at night or on weekends? In the summer or after a rainstorm?

  • Search Words - How do visitors find your site. What keywords do they type into the search bar? This is essential knowledge for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). It allows you to use these keywords in your copy to get to that all-important first page of google.

  • Pathways- How are your customers navigating your site? Do visitors come to read the blog page then move on to learn more about your business through your “about me” page? Are they starting on services then move onto prices?

  • Conversions- The most crucial information. How many site visits result in a sale or service request?

This is all the information a small business needs to be successful by increasing traffic to its website and giving the visitors what they want to see when they arrive!

So, do yourself a favour. Take some time to look at the analytics tab on your site…or of course, you could just hire me to do it for you.
