Copywriting | The invisible profession
So you are a copywriter hey? That’s to do with patents right? Well no. Not at all.
It is the strangest thing. We are literally surrounded by “copy” all day everyday.
The back of your shampoo bottle. A copywriter wrote that.
The description of your ASOS skirt. A copywriter wrote that.
Commercial for Panadol. A copywriter wrote that.
Once the veil is lifted it is impossible to lower it again. You cant look at a menu without wondering who wrote it. You’ll see.
The beauty of it being largely a secret is that the general public, including your target audience, is influenced constantly in their purchasing decisions, where they go on holiday, who cuts their hair. All through these secret words written by unknown people. Like me.
The truth is, if you have noticed someone’s copywriting, it is probably because it was particularly badly worded or grammatically incorrect. It is like when you read a novel with a spelling mistake. It is just not right. It is an insult to your eyes.
So think on this. What is it you want your target market to do? Do you want them to buy a sandwich at your cafe? Do you want them to have your business top of mind when they need to send someone flowers? Do you want existing customers to refer others? Once you know your business needs… the copy will do the rest!
